Summer is over, but just because the temperature is dropping, doesn’t mean we have to stop reading scorching hot books! Frisky Fall Saturdays is our new weekly post created by The Autumn Review, The Bookish Babe, Hackaroo’s Reviews, Paranormal and Urban Fantasy Reviews, and Sim-Sational-Books. Feel free to join in. (let us know so we can add a link to your post that week) As those leaves start piling up in the yard, ignore them and pick up a sexy book and tell us about it!
This week’s FFS is from:
There’s nothing worse than living next door to your childhood nemesis, except maybe being forced to share your dream project with him, being blackmailed into going along with something that was just wrong on so many levels, and having your hot cocoa stolen by the person that drove you to drink it in the first place.
As long as she has plenty of hot cocoa, a pair of pliers on hand and is able to resist Connor O’Neil’s bad boy charm then Rory James should be able to make it through this project with her sanity intact. If not…..
She’d probably face a few more nights in jail, have a few more restraining orders slapped against her and lose her heart to the man that ruined her life.
You have no idea how freaking excited I was to hear that this came out. Me and my bestie, April @ Sim Sational Books, have been reading Mathewson’s romance/erotica together since the first Neighbor From Hell book. We adore this series hardcore. They’r funny, romantic, hot and perfect really.
Checkmate was no exception in my opinion. Every one of these books just seems to be getting better and better. This one is by far my most favorite and treasured book of the series.
Mathewson has truly outdone herself in this book.
Rory and Connor have had a rivalry since they were little. Connor was the school bully and he was fascinated by Rory James because she was the only one who wouldn’t back down no matter how hard he pushed her…literally. The whole town knew better than to have these two kids in the same room. It always ended up in a brawl.
“Rory’s a boy’s name,” the mean little boy who’d pushed her off the swing only minutes seconds earlier, announced as he glared down at her accusingly….”It’s a girl’s name,” she said, taking a deep breath and shoving him back.
Over the years, the rivalry was still there and though neither of them would admit, they had an attraction. A very strong attraction.
I loved this book. So completely. I’ve always been a sucker for those where the couple knew each other from childhood then grew up together and fall in love. Although this one has a different twist to it.
Once Rory and Connor (sort of) get over their mutual “hate” they both find out that the attraction they’ve been keeping a secret was a bit more than they thought. Once they act on that attraction, fireworks explode and that isn’t the only thing that….erm….explodes. heh.
This book has it all….Humor, sex, love, romance, and drama. I said it once and will say it again…I. ADORE. THIS. BOOK.
Mathewson has truly outdone herself. Again. I cannot wait and see what she has in store next and will snatch it up as soon as it comes out.
I also want to put a note that reading this with my reading buddy, April…..made the experience that much better. 🙂
“As long as you remember that I hate you” Rory mumbled against his lips.
“I’ll remember,” he promised.
“And you hate me,” she reminded him as she continued to caress his lips with light, teasing kisses that had his arms tightening around her and his body trembling with the need to consume her.
“With a passion.”
