Cover Reveal: And With Madness Comes The Light

I was contacted by one of my most favorite authors to reveal a super exclusive book coming out in February. Karina Halle has been nominated for the Goodreads Choice Awards 2012 for best horror. She had put out on her facebook page that as an incentive to vote for her book to be in the semi-finals, she would write yet another Dex-Files novel. How freaking badass is that?!

Well, I received an email stating that Karina Halle adores her fans so much that she is going to publish a second Dex-Files book even if she doesn’t get to the semi finals. I, of course, seriously think she can pull it off.

So, in this email, she sent me the mouthwatering cover for this new novel that is supposed to hit the Amazon store around Valentine’s Day. 🙂

So without much further ado, here is the cover:

“And With Madness Comes the Light” – An Experiment in Terror Novella #6.5
The Man. The Mystery. The Madness.
Dex Foray has never been anyone’s fool – until he missed his chance for happiness with Perry Palomino. Broken and alone, Dex has no choice but to rise from the ashes Perry left behind and find his own path to redemption. But nothing in Dex’s life has ever come easy, especially when there’s a dark madness waiting in the wings.
Told from Dex’s POV, And With Madness Comes the Light spans the time period from the end of Lying Season (Book #4) until the beginning of Into the Hollow (Book #6). If you were every wondering what really happened to Dex while Perry was gone, now is your chance.
Cover art is by Najla Qamber.
I, for one cannot WAIT for this to come out. If you thought the first Dex Files was good, this is going to be 10 times better for sure!

Cover Reveal: Into The Hollow by Karina Halle

I am so excited to be presenting the cover of one of my most favorite authors’ Karina Halle’s next Experiment in Terror series Into The Hollow.

Karina’s Experiment In Terror series has become one of my all-time favorite series and I feel honored to share in this cover reveal.

Without much further ado, (insert drumroll here), here is the cover (squeeeeee!!!!):

Perry Palomino has fought her demons – and won – but the battle is far from over. She’s now left broken and on her own, leaving behind her life and family in Portland to focus on giving Dex Foray – and the Experiment in Terror show – a second chance. But their past mistakes continue to tease and test their relationship, as does the wild and desolate terrain of the Canadian Rockies. The snow-covered peaks and ravenous forests hide an urban legend too unbelievably frightening to be true and the only way the duo has a chance of surviving is if Perry can let in the very man who sent her to hell and back.

Isn’t this cover awesome?! I love the creepiness and it’s color. Karina is an amazing writer so if you haven’t picked up this series yet, I strongly urge you to start it.

Please NOTE!!! The first book in the series Darkhouse is FREE right now. Click HERE to pick it up.

Why did I enter in this tour?

Well, if you don’t know by now, I am a BIG fan of Karina’s. Like almost to the point of stalker. She has an amazing talent for writing and she is a badass chick as well. I lurve her hardcore.

When I heard that Karina is doing an all-Dex novella….I will admit that I freaked out. Like totally squealed like a fan girl and did a happy jig. No joke. I heart Dex and all the EIT characters THAT much. Dex and Perry are two of my all-time favorite characters. Even though Dex can be an ass but he can be so completely awesome as well.

So what did I think?

So freaking ah-mazing. I knew from the start that going into Dex’s mind would be a naughty/crazy experience. I saw snippets from Karina’s page and I could not wait to get my hands on it. So many times in the entire Experiment In Terror series, I always wanted to know what was behind those dark, dark eyes of his. What was he thinking? What was he feeling?

Being inside his mind was incredible. I’m not much for too many guys’ POV but Halle does a great job. She really does have an amazing talent for writing.

A Dex sample, totally free. She didn’t have to buy the thing, but she did. I’m a good product.

If you’re paying attention to what you’re reading in this book, things will start to click and unravel. Pick up on all the clues and follow the trail. 🙂

This started off showing Dex as a small child and a peek from Old Blood. From the beginning you can sense that Dex wasn’t the norm and he doesn’t see things as the norm. But that’s what makes him so great in my opinion. Reading everything that he went through and learning more about how is he why he is is fantastic.

It was really great to learn more about Abby, Maximus, and Jenn. See where they all played their part in his life. When he first sees Perry and really sees her.

But crude man-whores don’t last forever. Eventually they meet someone who puts all the other women to shame. Sometimes it’s someone you least expect.

The book ends with a peek into the next installment and I cannot wait til I can get my hands on it!

Favorite Quotes:

I wanted to let her know she was going to be OK. There was something so vulnerable and restrained about Perry, something that made me want to do stupis, ridiculous things keep her safe. At the same time, I wanted to draw her out and make her strong, like a diamond from coal.

Now it was my time to blush. Except that I’m a man and I don’t do that.

On Demon Wings Blog Tour & Giveaway

Goodreads Description:

When the life you wanted has crumbled beneath your fingers, there’s nothing left to do but pick up the pieces and soldier on. You’ve done this before.

But what happens when you no longer feel like yourself anymore? When fires spontaneously start-up around you, when you hear growling coming from underneath your bed, and you no longer recognize your face in the mirror. What happens then?

Ghost-hunter Perry Palomino doesn’t have much time to find out. Now, the evil she used to hunt is a lot closer to home. It’s inside of her, taking over her life bit-by-terrifying bit, and there’s only one person who can help her.

If part of her doesn’t kill him first.

So, I just wanted to start off by saying that Karina Halle has quickly become on of my favorite authors. Not just because of her books, but because she is just such an amazing, sweet woman.

I completely fell head over heels in love with Perry in Darkhouse. The case was still open on Dex since he wasn’t as big of a factor yet. But as time went on and each book got devoured, I developed a love/hate feeling with him. Which, I’m sure, so does every female who reads this series.

I always say that this series is so unlike anything you’ve ever read. I stand by it. Every. Single. Time.

Karina has this amazing ability to just make you so engrossed in these books that the entire world around you falls away. I love that! I mean, that’s why we read right? To get away and get the chance to be in another world full of possibilities? Well, I do. Karina’s world is one of my most treasured.

What did I think?

I just finished this book like half an hour ago, and my brain cannot stop spinning.  In the end of Lying Season, I  was seriously at a loss for words. It had one of the worst cliffhangers ever. lol I was so wound up when I finished it I almost threw my kindle. Seriously. I wanted to smack Dex upside the head and kick him in the crotch. How could he do that to Perry?! HOW!?!? If you’ve read it, you’ll sympathize. If you haven’t read it, stop reading this review and go read the series…..NOW!

Halle, as always, has such a great way of storytelling. She never has a dull moment in any of her books. On Demon Wings is no exception.

We open with Perry trying to go on after the horribly emotional ending of Lying Season. Perry is heartbroken, emotionally raw and in pieces. Her state of mind is so fragile. Yet she keeps it together….but just barely.

I absolutely loved the raw intensity of Perry’s feelings. You felt everything she was feeling. Every. Feeling. She was so strong. Probably stronger than I could ever be. She finds a normal job at a coffee shop and tries to keep a semblance of her sanity. She does, but only just barely.

But if you’ve read the series, you know that normal just doesn’t fit into Perry’s lifestyle. Weird, crazy things happen to her. Involving ghosts. But this time it’s a bit more hardcore than ghosts. Perry somehow gets involved with demons. That’s right….demons.

Even within the first few chapters I was going crazy. There are some punches that Halle threw out which knocked my socks off. Everything pretty much goes haywire. I can’t leak out too much 😉 it’ll give away the surprises. Believe me….there are plenty of surprises in this book. Like, non-stop surprises.

All throughout this crazy, Perry has one single person to count on. It’s not who I would’ve first chosen based on the series honestly. Which was completely great. That person is Ada. Even though I was surprised, I was really excited to see Perry and Ada’s sister relationship bloom. They’ve had their problems and haven’t really “got” each other but it was awesome to see. Ada becomes the one person she could count on. I really liked Ada in this book. She has that special snarkiness that is the perfect comic relief.

Some characters do make appearances in this book. Some you may suspect but some you might not. I’ll leave it at that. Be prepared for awesome when you pick this up.

This really was an intense book. But Karina makes the pages fly. I devoured every paragraph, every sentence, and every word.

I say it all the time and I will say it again. Karina Halle has quickly become one of my most favorite authors. Not just because of her books, but because she is one of the most sweetest, down to earth chicks that rocks hardcore. 😉

If you haven’t read the Experiment in Terror series yet, I highly suggest you do. Every book is exceptionally written and will become an instant favorite.

Favorite Quote:

His admission tugged at my heartstrings. Only a little. He was still a douchcanoe. The douchcanoe who was going to paddle me to safety.

“The car is fine. She’s a trooper. She’ll take us where we need to go. She may not look pretty anymore, but none of us do. I even started her engine before I set out to find you, thinking you might hear it. She purrs like a cat. A retarded cat, but a cat.”

Good Choice Reading

Lying Season Blog Tour Stop & Giveaway

If you don’t know already, you should know that I absolutely LOVE this series. This has become one of my most favorites series to date. This entire series is so unexpected and wonderfully enticing. It will capture you with page one of Darkhouse to the last sentence in Lying Season.

So when I heard that there was a blog tour for Lying Season, I immediately wanted in. After I did my happy jig of course. 😉

Not only is this series a-mazing, the author is one of the sweetest women I know and a pleasure to talk to (well…tweet to ;-)).

Without further ado (and rambling), I’m here to present Lying Season:

Goodreads Description:

Amateur ghost-hunter Perry Palomino has battled ghosts, fought off skinwalkers and skirted the fine line between life and death. But can she survive bunking down in Seattle for a week with her partner (and man she secretly loves) Dex and his perfect girlfriend, Jennifer? And can she do so while being tormented by a malicious spirit from Dex’s increasingly shady past? With love and life in the balance, Perry must discover the truth among the lies or risk losing everything she’s ever cared about.

For my part in this tour, I have an excerpt from Darkhouse which is ithe first book in the series:

I walked to the opposite edge of the boat, where the Pacific stretched to meet the matching sky, and went down on my knees.

“She’s gonna hurl!” Whiz yelled from the front.

“Shut the fuck up,” I heard Dex tell him.

“You OK, Perry?” Matt asked, ignoring the two.

I motioned for them to just stop talking and leave me alone and concentrated on not losing my lunch over the side.

The bottom of the boat soaked my knees, but I didn’t care. I gripped the edge with my hands and put my head over until all I could see was the sloshing grey surf beneath me.

The guys were all yammering on about something, but somehow my brain was cooperating with me and slowly drowning them out, like my ears had a dimmer switch.

I kept my focus on the churning ocean, concentrating on the myriad of muted, cold colors and the shapes the creamy seafoam was creating with each crest and fall. The waves of nausea continued to pass through me though. The only thing that felt worse was the uneasiness and panic that also coursed through my veins. I was fearful and I didn’t know what of.

I closed my eyes and breathed in the salt air. The roar of the engine, the boys, and sound of the waves subsided until all I heard was the throbbing of my own heart in my head.

It was a female voice.

I opened my eyes and looked. All I could see was the ocean.

“Perry,” it said again. It was eerily familiar and coming from in front of me. From the waves.

“Perry, are you OK?”

Could I be hearing things?

I slowly turned and looked at the rest of the boat. Dex’s back was to me, still filming the land and the lighthouse which was now coming into view. Matt was focused on driving while Whiz was yapping to him about something. Tony seemed to be paying attention to him while eyeing me in his peripheral vision.

“Perry, help me,” I heard the voice say again from the direction of the water. My eyes widened and heart slowed. I had no choice but to look back over the edge of the boat.

In the water, it looked like something dark was moving beneath the waves. At first it looked like a passing shadow of a crest, or manipulation by a white cap. But the more I stared, the more I could make out something.

Was it an arm? It moved like one.

Then fingertips. I could see a hand just below the water’s surface.

I tried to scream, to say anything, to move. But I couldn’t. I could only watch a hand reach out of the water, turning from a watery shadow to a physical object. It was shades of green and white, but it was real with blue veins running up the arm.

And then the arm was joined by another, like a headless person was treading water. I was riveted on the spot where the head should be. I could see the swirling shadows beneath it.

One of the hands started wagging a finger at me. I casually recognized the blue nailpolish on its finger. I had that same shade.

Still gripping the edge with my hands, I slowly got to my knees until I was standing right above and peering down at the body.

The head broke through the water.

It was me.

I was looking at myself floating in the water, eyeing myself down with dead, glassy eyes that streamed green fluid.

“Save me, Perry,” she said. My mouth dropped open. I felt like my body was going through a freefall. My mind reeled.

And before I could react, she lunged out of the water and grabbed a hold of my poncho with both hands.

I let out a scream that shook my bones to their marrow and was pulled forward over the railing of the boat.

The water rushed up to greet me, turning black before it was about to swallow me into its depths.
