Shifers Read A Long Chat!

read-a-long

Right now in the Shifters Read A Long, we’ve finished the first book Stray. I’m anxious to see what everyone thought. Especially the ones who have never read the series before.

I’ve been looking for a chat room for everyone to go to and am having trouble finding one. I’m planning on having a Twitter Chat starting at 6:00 pm Pacific time.

We will only be talking about Stray and no spoilers allowed 😉 Anyone can join in and the more the merrier!!!

The twitter Hashtag for the Chat is #ShiftersChat.

Here is the information on Stray:

STRAYDescription:

There are only eight breeding female werecats left . . .
And I’m one of them.

I look like an all-American grad student. But I am a werecat, a shape-shifter, and I live in two worlds.

Despite reservations from my family and my Pride, I escaped the pressure to continue my species and carved out a normal life for myself. Until the night a Stray attacked.

I’d been warned about Strays — werecats without a Pride, constantly on the lookout for someone like me: attractive, female, and fertile. I fought him off, but then learned two of my fellow tabbies had disappeared.

This brush with danger was all my Pride needed to summon me back . . . for my own protection. Yeah, right. But I’m no meek kitty. I’ll take on whatever — and whoever — I have to in order to find my friends. Watch out, Strays — ’cause I got claws, and I’m not afraid to use them . . .

I will be tweeting beforehand to let everyone know when we’ll be chatting it up. My twitter handle is @Jessica984 so please look me up!

***If anyone has ANY way to hook up to an actual chatroom, please let me know! ***

SWOON Thursday: Stray by Rachel Vincent

The lovely ladies over at YA Bound created this super HOT meme.  Here’s how it works.

From the book you’re currently reading, or one you just finished, tell us what made you SWOON. What got your heart pounding, your skin tingling, and your stomach fluttering.

This week’s SWOON is from:

Twitter Approved:

“No head start for you,” he whispered, running one hand over my hip and up my side…

Bloggy Version:

“No head start for you,” he whispered, running one hand over my hip and up my side. His fingers tickled, sending promising shivers all over me. I squirmed beneath him and heard his breath catch.

“I don’t need a head start,” I breathed, my cheek pressed to the floor. His stomach was warm against the curve of my lower back, bare between the seam of my shirt and the low waist of my jeans. On the radio, a new tune played, intense, and heavy on guitar and drums. My heart raced along with its rhythm, and my legs ached to run. But instead of glorying in the freedom of speed, I was trapped, immobile. “I’ve always been faster than you, and a few years with limited practice time isn’t enough to give you an advantage.” I twisted my neck, trying to see him. “Besides, you can’t run while you’re holding me down.”

His fingers eased beneath the edge of my top, brushing the sensitive skin over my ribs and beneath my breast. I gasped, fascinated by the curiously delicate sensation and my own conflicting impulses. One was to fight, to claw at the carpet in a bid for freedom. But the other was to lie still in anticipation of what might come next. Because whatever it was, knowing Jace, it would be good.

Teaser Tuesday: Stray by Rachel Vincent

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along, just do as following:

·Grab your current read
·Open to a random page
·Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
·Be careful not to include any spoilers so as not to ruin the book for others.

This week’s TT is from:

Here is the Teaser….it’s a bit longer than the norm but I couldn’t pass it up 😉

Daddy nodded, brushing the tip of his chin with the knuckles of his clasped hands. “I’m convening the council. They’ll need a description to start with.”

I nodded. “Shorter than Marc but taller than me. Small-to-medium build. Black eyes and dark curly hair. Foreign scent-probably a jungle cat.” I glanced at Marc, thinking about what he’d told me the night before.

“Anything else?” my father asked.

“Yeah.” I met his gaze, unblinking. “A broken nose.”

The smallest hint of a smile teased the corner of his mouth, like a twitch.-Location 6229/28% Kindle

Shifters Series Read A Long

If you don’t know by now, you should know that one of my most favorite authors is Rachel Vincent and one of my all-time favorite series is the Shifters series that is written by her.

I haven’t read this series in quite a while. Well, considering the last book in the series came out in 2010, ummm….yea it’s been a while. But even to this day, I still think about this series and I’ve been meaning to re-read it. So I figured why not have a read a long? I love to talk about this series and I want more people to know about it and read it. I thought it would be really fun to start a read a long and have a few (or hopefully more) read with me. It’s always fun to read in groups and share notes.

At the end of the read a long, I will be giving away a full set of the series either e-book or paperback. It will be up to the winner. More prizes might pop up during the read a long, but I’m not sure.

This series is adult urban fantasy so there are sexy scenes in here and some pretty bad ass violence. I hope you decide to join in. I really do. If not, then I strongly encourage you to pick these up and read them. They really are one of the best series out there.

The read a long will go from November to May. I know it’s a long time but I broke it up into about 10 chapters a week with about a week in between to chat or discuss the book. I also gave a little bit of breaks for the holidays.

Here are the books:

Goodreads Description:

Okay, so cats don’t always land on their feet.I know that better than most. Since rejoining the Pride, I’ve made big decisions and even bigger mistakes: the kind paid for with innocent lives. As the first and only female enforcer, I have plenty to prove to my father, the Pride, and myself. And with murdered toms turning up in our territory, I’m working harder than ever, though I always find the energy for a little after-hours recreation with Marc, my partner both on- and off-duty.

But not all of my mistakes are behind me. We’re beginning to suspect that the dead are connected to a rash of missing human women and that they can all be laid at my feet–two or four, take your pick. And one horrible indiscretion may yet cost me more than I can bear…

Goodreads Description:

I’m on trial for my life. Falsely accused of infecting my human ex-boyfriend–and killing him to cover up the crime. Infecting a human is one of three capital offenses recognized by the Pride–along with murder and disclosure of our existence to a human.I’m two for three. A goner. Now we’ve discovered a rogue stray terrorizing the mountainside, hunting a wild teenage tabbycat. It’s up to us to find and stop him before a human discovers us. With my lover Marc’s help, I “think” I can protect the vulnerable girl from both the ambitious rogue and the scheming of the territorial council.

“If” I survive my own trial…

Goodreads Description:

Sometimes playing cat and mouse is no game…Play? “Right.” My Pride is under fire from all sides, my father’s authority is in question and my lover is in exile. Which means I haven’t laid eyes on Marc’s gorgeous face in months. And with a new mother “and” an I-know-everything teenager under my protection, I don’t exactly have time to fantasize about ever seeing him again. Then our long-awaited reunion is ruined by a vicious ambush by strays. Now our group is under attack, Marc is missing and I will need every bit of skill and smarts to keep my family from being torn apart. Forever.

Goodreads Description:

Being the first female werecat enforcer isn’t easy. Scars accumulate, but I’m stronger in so many ways.

As for my personal life? It’s complicated. Choices worth making always are. Ever since my brother’s death and my father’s impeachment, it’s all I can do to prevent more blood from spilling. Now our Pride is under attack by a flight of vicious thunderbirds. And making peace with our new enemies may be the only way to get the best of our old foe.

With the body count rising and treachery everywhere, my instincts tell me to look before I leap. But sometimes a leap of faith is the only real option…

Goodreads Description:

The unscrupulous new Council chair has charged Jace, Marc and me with trespassing, kidnapping, murder and treason. Yeah, we’ve been busy. But now it’s time to take justice into our own hands. We must avenge my brother’s death and carve out the rot at the heart of the Council. It’s not going to be easy, and loss seems unavoidable, but I have promised to protect my Pride, no matter what. With a target on my back and Marc at my side, I’m heading for a final showdown that can–that will–change everything forever. A showdown I’m not sure I’m ready for.

But life never waits until you’re ready.
